They are then told the only way they can get the refund is if it is direct deposited into their bank account and that the caller needs to remotely access her computer to do so.
The caller deposits more than the $250 into the victim's bank account and then calls them bank to ask them to wire the extra money back to the minus a share for her inconvenience.
