Exposure to radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Each year in the United States, approximately 21,000 lung cancer deaths are caused by radon. “People that have never smoked are being diagnosed with lung cancer. Our county has areas of naturally high levels of radon in our soil, therefore it is very important every household test for radon.
Testing is low cost, fast and easy. Since January is Radon Action Month – Bayfield County Health Department will be offering FREE Radon Test kits! Test kits are available here at the health department, but also at the following locations to make it easier to pick up a kit:

Most homes with high radon levels can be fixed for between $800 to $1,500.
