[ARCHIVED] Welcome Spring!

It's a big weekend...

For starters, it’s the fishing opener. Find your spot - get out to one of Bayfield County’s 962 inland lakes or one of our Class A trout streams. Area bait shops are ready for you! And don’t forget to review boat cleaning procedures to make sure invasive species aren’t being transported – we want to make sure that our waters stay as free of invasives as possible. For information on the new Walleye limits and other regulations, visit the WI DNR site:

Many area campgrounds will also be opening this weekend. Make sure you have a reservation if needed. Check out some “Specials & Deals” at Bayfield County parks: Also, if you are planning on heading out to one of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest sites, be sure to check to see if it’s one of the sites that has reduced services this summer. Here is a link to their site to find out more:

Spring is a great time to see lots of bird species as they are migrating. Waterfalls are also at their height in the spring. See these things and lots more on one of our 40 hiking trails in Bayfield County:

Bring your bikes and take a scenic ride on one of these popular routes: For more information on biking in Bayfield County (including mountain bike trails), visit:

Also, ATV/UTV trails are opening May 1st! There are still some wet areas, so please tread lightly. For updated condition reports, go to or call (715) 373-6125 ext. 5. Pick up maps at area businesses or tourism information offices. Order a map or one of our other publications online at

Now get out and enjoy all that our area has to offer – have fun!
